Local Outreach

2019

From Brandon: In June, Macedonia Baptist Church in North Carolina had its annual Vacation Bible School. It is always one of the great opportunities to reach out to others in the local community. Our theme was "In the Wild," and I had the opportunity to teach the special class about World Missions. The great thing about this class is that I was able to share with every student that was a part of our Vacation Bible School this year. I shared stories from missionaries in Mozambique all the way to Puerto Rico; and I shared a whole lot more about my work in Ecuador, South America. To see the students' interest in our work and in World Missions in general was a great blessing and encouragement. We showed the importance of sharing God's Word and His Love with others from all parts of the world.
In July of this year, I took my students from Macedonia Baptist Church on a special mission. We were going to a beach outreach project. What we did was ask our church members for donations of bottled water weeks prior to our project. Upon receiving a lot of bottled water, we selected our favorite Bible verses of encouragement. We typed these verses and then printed them out as small labels. Lastly, we taped a verse on each of the water bottles. On the morning of our project, we iced down several coolers full of bottle water and headed to the Outer Banks. God blessed us with great beach weather and we were able to hand out all of the water in less than an hour, reaching about 200 people. Nearly all of the people asked about the project and read the Bible verse on their bottle. It provided a great opportunity to share about God's Love for them.

In September and October of this year, two separate hurricanes affected the area. Locally, a number of people evacuated in preparation for the impending hurricanes. After the storms we had the opportunity to provide some assistance in yard work and cleaning. Being so close to home--we had these areas cleaned up before people arrived back from evacuating. Please continue to pray for those in the area who were affected much more severely by the storms.

In November, we were able to assist a Navy veteran who was in need of an eye exam and in need of new contacts. We were able to provide him with the resources needed in order to get his exam and contacts. He is very appreciative of this and we at Romans 8 Ministries thank you for your support so that we can assist those who have needs such as this.

In the last week of July, 2017; a major power outage occurred along North Carolina's coast. This occurred during the peak of the tourist season for this area and lasted for over a week. Many local families' incomes were severely affected by the outage as all those on vacation were ordered to evacuate. A short time later, it was brought to our attention that a great need for school supplies for students had arose.

We partnered with Lifeline Outreach OBX to assist in this project. They informed us that many local families could not afford back-to-school supplies for this year. We quickly starting asking for donations of supplies for this project. After two weeks, we had collected a trunk full of supplies. We delivered the school supplies the last Sunday in August and they were all distributed the next day to local students.

Both Lifeline Outreach OBX and Romans 8 Ministries send a special thanks all those who purchased supplies and made donations to this project.

2016

After the heavy rains in eastern North Carolina in the latter months of 2016, we were able to help many of those affected by flooding. We partnered with the North Carolina Baptist Men and were able to purchase a large amount of cleaning supplies. Brandon, along with the students from his local church, helped arrange these supplies into about 30 seperate kits. The NCBM were able to distribute these cleaning kits to families immediately. Additionally, we have been able to assist a couple of families who were having some difficulty getting repairs completed to their homes.

Earlier in the year, we were able to assist an elderly gentleman who had quite a bit of dental work done. The man was not receiving any assistance and he was unable to pay for the all of the treatment on his own. However, with your support the man and his family were not burdened with an expensive bill.
In mid-2016, we had been assisting a family with the upcoming birth of their baby. The pregnancy was quite complicated and the family was struggling with medical expenses. They were not able to receive any assistance from other sources. With your prayers and support the baby arrived a few months ago and is healthy and happy. The family is also doing well and appreciates your support and prayers very much. Please continue to keep this family in your prayers.

For the past few years, we have been assisting a single mother of three children with some living expenses. In that time, she has returned to school to earn a degree in business.

She is nearly finished with her degree program. She and her family are doing well because of your continued prayers and support. Even though the situation is difficult, the family remains encouraged and is determined to keep pressing on. Please keep this family in your prayers as well.
